Mr. Evening Grosbeak

It's not really an animal or insect but there is no bird or nature option for me to pick.

I was just getting ready to head out to put some seeds in the platform feeder around 8:30 this morning when I noticed through the window in the back door a number of grosbeaks at the platform. I was so excited to see them back this year that I ran over to grab my 7D with the Sigma 150-500 on it to try to get a few shots. They haven't been coming around last year as we had a new front deck put on and the platform feeder that I fed them on the old deck on has gone to the fire pit. I had hubby make me a new platform this yeasr and was thrilled as I said that they have once again returned. I opened the door ever so quietly but, alas, they spook with even the slightest movement and so they flew off.

Luckily, some of them didn't venture too far heading only up into the branches of the Manitoba Maple here where the seed platform is. I am thinking the idea of filling their bellies overtook the need to "get outta dodge" really quickly. I managed to get a few shot of Mr. Evening Grosbeak and a couple of the Mrs. in the tree.

They really are beautiful birds.
